    Hi,

is it possible to change some translations in the (german) language file? For example when using the Login Widget in the sidebar it says “Du bist angemeldet als <Username>” if you are logged in. While this is not wrong, I need the more formal “Sie sind angemeldet als <Username>”. Is there an easy way for me to edit those messages to my needs?

As far as translations are concerned, formal (Sie) and non-formal are two different locales. There is not a fully complete formal translation for the plugin (although one is started and does have a fair amount of work done on it).

To answer the specific question “Is there an easy way for me to edit those messages to my needs?” – yes, you could edit the .po file for the translation. However, you do need to generate a .mo file from your changed .po file. The .po file is the template, the .mo is the compiled translation from the template that is used to deliver the appropriate strings in the application. You will need an editor program such as Poedit to do your translation.

Thank you for your reply, I will look into that!

I have done a good portion of the translation to de_DE_formal already, but it is not complete yet. I believe the pot file I had access to wasn’t complete.

I used poedit (standalone exe) primarily and in some cases locotranslate (Plugin). Both are working fine. Using these tools translations are easy done. You can check results immediately. Both btw create the mo file when you save the po file.

I believe you already know you need to set the WP language from ‘Deutsch’ to ‘Deutsch (Sie)’ if you use a de_DE_formal translation file. If not the ‘formal’ translation file is not recognized.
