Change location of Footer Bar or all Widget Areas

I would try the Before Footer Hook or Before Footer Content Hook instead:

You could full on move the site copyright/copyright bar into one of those areas as well:

add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'tu_move_copyright' );
function tu_move_copyright() {
    remove_action( 'generate_footer','generate_construct_footer' );
    add_action( 'generate_before_footer','generate_construct_footer' );
}

Thank you for this. I guess I was confused, I thought there was a difference between the site.info and the bottom.bar but it appears to be the same thing. I wanted to use the widget area of the bottom bar but I guess there really isn’t a true bottom bar widget area like there is for the header.

You could hook the footer bar widget area above the footer widgets, or you could create a new widget area.

For example:

add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'tu_move_footer_bar' );
function tu_move_footer_bar() {
    remove_action( 'generate_before_copyright','generate_footer_bar', 15 );
    add_action( 'generate_before_footer','generate_footer_bar', 15 );
