Change permalink structure without losing share stats?

I still have the Permalinks set to default, and want to change them to either post or custom. I tried this once, and all my social media sharing stats in the floating share bar disappeared. Is this because of the specific plug-in I’m using (which is WP Socializer) or is it because the sharing stats are always linked to the post URL, and changing the permalink structure kills those old URLs? I don’t want to lose my stats and have a lonely-looking blog!
