Change Slug of existing page

Hi, i have a site already indexed by google. Now i want to change some existing page URL(Slug) to some diffrent words. if i do so will my old page URL in google index report page not found/duplicate. do i need to redirect these old URLs to New URLs. Or WP does this itself once i change the slugs.
