When I make a copy of a post, the url of the original post changes to htpps://www……-2 and the original URL goes to the draft post.

This is a horrible issue as you can imagine.

    Hey @mbdireccion,

    Thank you for reaching out.

That’s odd and unexpected. However, we’re not able to reproduce it. If we clone a published post, the original stays untouched and when I publish the clone, it is the cloned post that gets the -2 if the permalink is not changed.

Can you please try if you can reproduce the issue in a default environment when Yoast Duplicate Post is the only active plugin and you are using a default theme? You can do so with the troubleshooting mode in the Health Check plugin, more info here: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/

The original should (clearly) not go to Draft. I believe this is related to my thread—since Wordlress seems to be confusing the URLs.

I go through in detail how it appears to function currently.

The “new” post should get a “-2” since it’s designed to replace content, not the URL. This keeps WordPress from confusing the original and future/Rescheduled posts.

@jeroenrotty: We are experiencing the same problem on our production site. When duplicating posts, the original published post is in effect taken offline.

What appears to happen is this: The duplicate gets the same URL as the published post. But as it is set to draft, the URL throws a 404 to not logged in users.

The original post meanwhile gets a “-2” attached to the URL, as WordPress does not allow two posts with the same URL. Our workaround now is to save the original post, thus creating an automatic redirect.

The problem does not seem to occur on our staging site for some reason, however. And not with every duplicate we create.

However, this is a serious problem, as it effectively takes offline original posts when creating a duplicate.

Hi Thiloroe. I solved the problem just only deactivating all the plugins and themes and activating them again. Magically it begun to work well.
