    Hello

Thank you for the free support it’s highly appreciated! I use the wordfence plugin on every site I’ve build it’s the first plugin installed… I’m very satisfied,,,

I have a quick question. For the past several months have been blocking on average of 100-200 login attempts daily on every site.

My question is if I change the name of the WP-Admin directory to ” whatever name” then change it back to WP-Admin when I need to gain access to my admin panel. Will this affect or damage the wordfence plugin or any WP core setting?

Thanks for any advice in advance..

  • Hey Fish,

Even if you rename the wp-admin directory, someone (or something more likely) can still sniff it out. Changing the default username and using a complex password with the addition of two-factor authentication provides the best frontline defense. You could also password protect your wp-admin folder using .htaccess. You have to be careful with the AJAX handler though. See this link..

If you’re still interested in changing the wp-admin directory, I’ll need to check on the side effects.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your advice I thought I seemed a bit to easy! I use keypass x for all passwords, with about 25 character password, my username is fairly complex also.. I’ll take your advice and two factor authentication and password protect wp-admin..

Thank you again for such as swift response..

I meant wait on two factor authentication, I don’t think it’s needed yet unless perhaps it’s some bot on steroids,,, Just encase anyone else might follow this… I wanted to clear that up!
