    Hi,

It looks like something (possibly the WordPress 5.0 upgrade) has changed the way ‘Target by URL’ works when WordPress is installed in a sub-folder of a server.

We have a WordPress install in a folder named ‘art’ on our server (unfortunately it is private site, so I can’t send the URL). Previously I had set the ‘Target by URL’ strings so that they were relative to that ‘art’ installation folder, and the widgets displayed perfectly. E.g. the strings were set similar to:
    dv-art-comp/2014-dv-ac
    dv-art-comp/2014-dv-ac/*

Recently (maybe after the upgrade to WordPress 5.0) the widgets stopped displaying with these ‘Target by URL’ strings.

Now it seems the ‘Target by URL’ strings are relative to the server itself, and have to include the ‘art’ WordPress install directory. So I could get the widget displaying again by appending ‘art/’ to the strings, e.g.:
    art/dv-art-comp/2014-dv-ac
    art/dv-art-comp/2014-dv-ac/*

Is that how the Widget Context plugin’s ‘Target by URL’ strings should work now for sub-folder WordPress installs?

    Thanks,
    Eoghan

    Hi Eoghan!

I believe this change was introduced in the latest version 1.1.0 of the Widget Context plugin. It is the expected behaviour, yes.

The Target by URL feature is really confusing to users so I wanted to simplify the options — you either enter the full URL of the relative URL from the root of the domain, instead of assuming that users know where WordPress core is installed.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on how to improve this.
