Change username on wordpress to card number

  • hello everyone,
    We are an association. Our members have a special card that they renew each year. Each card has its own number.
    I was wondering if we could assign a number to new user other than having them put there username.
    Explanation:
    I was first to subscribe on the site, my username could be 0000001 and so on for next subscribers.

    If you could help with this, I would appreciate it. Thank you

    Sure, WP will accept a number as user name. You can even change the label on the registration form through the “gettext” filter, which is normally for translations. You could “translate” Username to Card Number ?? It might take some doing to modify all occurrences of Username in WP, but for the registration form to be less confusing is worth something.

    This applies to new users only. You cannot change usernames of existing users through the WP UI, but it can be changed directly in the database if necessary.
