So I tried changing my domain name to a different site I have publish, but after I did that wordpress started giving me all these errors and I went to log out and attempted to log back in again and now I get a 404 error File or Directory not found. Anyway can I change this back to my original domain name and log back into my account?

  • Do you have access to the backend database? If yes, you can update the settings by opening the wp-options table. Here is the how to from the Codex

No I dont have access to anything, im completely logged out

Can you tell how you changed your domain name?

If I understand correctly, you have made the domain change from the Admin Dashboard? If so, I can understand you are logged out of WordPress, but are you able to login to your webhost?

Yes that’s correct I wasn’t sure If I could just do that and have wordpress link with another site but I guess not. In any event my webhost his Host Gator and am able to log into there. I went to uninstall wordpress but when I go to re-install it it says that files for wordpress are already there.

So I looked up on the Host Gator fourms and said to just delete the folder (so I uninstalled the program) and to delete my sql database, as of now there’s no database listed.

Do you have a backup of the files & folders? If yes, you can easily restore old files & database via your webhost’s cPanel.

Let me know if you have a backup and I can guide you to restore your site.

I don’t think So. I really didn’t have much on the site yet. Im just trying to get wordpress to sync with my website again so I can re-use it.

Ok. So here is what you can do (I assume you are okay with deleting everything and starting fresh, if not, please take backups)

    (0) Open wp-config.php from File Manager and store your Database Name, User and Password in a new text file.
    (1) From the file manager, delete all the wordpress files
    (2) Through phpMyAdmin, select all database tables and drop them. Don’t delete the database & users, you can still use them.
    (3) Re-install WordPress. (I think Softaculous will automatically create DB & users, but if you have an option, reuse your existing DB name & user)
(3.a) While reinstalling, enter the right domain details so that this is saved in the options table
