• I’m sure you’ve seen this before. I spent 4 hours on my own trying to solve this before coming to you all with my tail between my legs…

I was messing around in general settings and changed the site URL (I now understand this is a no-no).

Now I get page not found 404 when I try the wp-admin.

I’m using network solutions to host, so I definitely need extra help on this.. I don’t use cPanel or MySQL, just WordPress Dashboard to edit everything.

Can someone help stitch me up (and please be gentle)? Any help is appreciated ??

  • You can reset urls back using one of the methods here would recommend using a file method using ftp

Thank you govpatel for the recommendation.

I went with the phpmyadmin route to fix this problem, as it seemed to be the easiest. Changed from renxxxxxxxxxware.com to https://0343a8.netsolhost.com for both site url AND home. Seem correct?

My problem now is that I’ve changed the home and site url back to what I thought they’d be and hit go. Are there any other steps to this? I still can’t see my site.

Could it be that Network Solutions (my host) is taking a long time to update these changes – and I should just leave it for now?

You have to change them both back to what they were before.

    I believe I have.

Say I had a memory lapse and can’t remember 100% what it was…then what?

Also, do the site and home url mirror each other? I’m pretty sure they were both the same. Is there a specific format or something I may have missed outside of

    https://0247s7.netsolhost.com
    ???

(Changed the URL, but enough that you get the point)

    Thanks

Normally, it would be the URL where your WordPress files are. So, if the files are in a subfolder, that subfolder path has to be part of the URLs that you put in there.

In a default setup they would be the same.

Found an even easier solution to this problem, which I hope saves others countless hours and frustration…especially if you have a bad memory and like clicking to learn instead of reading first (like me – bad!).

Used the restore feature with my host (Network Solutions) and with a click I’m up and running again.

    God Bless auto backups…

I think my eyeballs are bleeding. Can anyone help with that??? ??

    Thanks for the help guys.
