• Hi! I changed login url to domain.com/adminxxxxxxx instead of domain.com/wp-admin. After that i activated the automatic logout via wp security so i got automatically logged out. Now it lets me log in but only redirects me to the maintenance site that is activated on my domain.

Now when i try to get to domain.com/wp-admin it says “not available” and when i go to domain.com/adminxxxxxx it only show the maintenance front. the wp-login.php shows the site. i need to get to the backend so i can change back the settings. Im new to wordpress and kind of a newbie. I would need some help plz!?

  • Hi uxalys, Can I ask how you changed the login url? was this via FTP or a plugin? If a plugin, what plugin?
    Thanks

Not via a plugin but some other setting through the security tab i think it was. I only had updraft+ and wp maintenance plugins installed and active.

edit: i did not mean automatic login but automatic logout. ??

    sorry, i forgot woocommerce.
So i had 3 plugins. updraft+, woocommerce and wp maintenance.

Thanks for you input. I’m trying to re-create the issue you have on my server. I have installed the plugins you listed but I still can’t find where I can change login url like you did.

I need to know how to access this security tab.

    A few questions:
What WordPress theme are you using?
Do you have FTP access (where you can see all the files on your server)?

    Hang in there,
    The solution is close by….

I havent changed theme so i guess it is the standard theme that comes with wp. My domainprovider solved the issue for me tho. They do backups and helped me with this problem ??

anyhow, i located where i changed the settings.

    1. WP Security-> Brute force-> Login Page URL:Changed it to adminxxxxx + checked the box above and saved.
    2. WP Security-> User login-> Force Logout: put in my wanted settings and saved. (i interpreted it as it would logout after X min of unactivity)

After these settings i was locked out.

All i wanted to do was to get my security rating higher so i wont be a target to hackers etc. Any tips on that subject?

I’m glad your host provider was able to sort you out.

It seems your hosting provider probably installed some additional plugins or settings for you by Default – WP Security. That setting is not a WordPress default. You could read more about this plugin and how to make the best of it.

I’ve personally used this plugin and if you do some slight reading, its easy to figure out. Take some time to check it out.

I must add a word of caution, every security plugin secures your website by changing some of the regular settings, so you should always proceed cautiously and not turn on or change anything you aren’t sure of.

    All the Best.
