• Hi!

I’m having a really weird problem right now with my site.

Any changes made via the WordPress backend do not show up on the site unless a user is logged in. For example if I create a new post, it does not show up on my homepage unless I am logged in. If I deactivate a plugin or even change the theme nothing changes on the site unless I am logged in.

It seems like a caching issue, but I have no idea where it is coming from. I wanted to ask if anyone had a similar problem before I contact my hosting provider.

    Thanks!

Being logged in breaks most basic caching engines, so I’d guess it’s probably that too.

Are you using any sort of caching plugin, or do you see a “Clear/Purge Cache” button in your Dashboard or admin bar? If so, would you please try clearing the cache?

Note: You do not need to install a caching plugin at this point just to clear a cache you don’t have. If you don’t have a caching plugin or a way to clear a server-level cache, just say so. ??

    Hi James! ^^

I’m not currently using any caching plugins, although recently I tried using the w3 total cache plugin. Long story short it broke my site and I had to burn it. Is it possible that it maybe left something laying around that is causing this issue?

I AM using Cloudflare so I could try a purge of that cache, but the thing is I also have a test server which is not using cloudflare to cache resources and it is having the same problem. This leads me to think it could also be an issue with my hosting provider.

It’s probably Cloudflare. Try flushing Cloudflare and clearing your browser’s cache after to see if that makes any difference.

If it doesn’t it might a sever-level cache, or maybe W3TC wasn’t uninstalled properly, but for that last bit you’d need to check with https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/w3-total-cache

Purging the Cloudflare cache had no effect. There are a few remaining w3tc files in my wp-content file but they’ve been there for ages so I don’t really see how they would start making problems now on my live site and my test site at the same time.

I’ll try removing them but other than that should I contact my hosting provider?

Thanks so much for the suggestions!

Check you wp-config.php files for any cache declarations that you might have added for W3TC too.

Note, I haven’t used W3TC in years, so just just a guess based on very old knowledge. https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/w3-total-cache would be a better place to ask for that.

I’m experiencing the same issue exactly!

Changes are showing straight away when logged into backend but not replicating when I’m logged out.

I’m running the latest version of WordPress (4.2.2).

I was using W3TC and deactivated and deleted it completely from my site (after purging all cache as per the option in the plugin) yet the problem persists.

I even tried to change the theme but the old theme is still showing on the homepage whereas other pages are showing the theme I changed to (all when logged out of backend). Very strange!

I’m not very familiar with coding so can please anyone direct me to what specific lines/code I should be looking for in wp-config.php (or any other file) as an indication that W3TC left some caching functionality (a.k.a ‘garbage’) behind.

Many thanks for your assistance ??
