Ive searched and i cant find any help posts. Basically i was told to make some parts of a page show up on posts, different from ones on custom pages and the index that i have to copy the index.php and make a new one called page.php etc with the bits in the code taken out for what i didnt want displaying taken out. But on the pages themselves how to i set wordpress to look at this file instead so that i can make custom pages on “page.php” and the same for Blog posts themselves,
    thanks

  • If what you’re asking is how to provide a template for posts as well as Pages, blog posts use single.php as their template. If it doesn’t exist, it defaults to index.php.

mag1co, it’s not at all clear from the above what you are trying to do. Are you wanting to modify the way WordPress “Pages” display? Are you wanting to produce a static page using the WordPress theme? Or are you just asking how to customize the Theme Template files for Posts and Pages?

Im trying to make it so that the “posted in” and comments area isnt on show on the custom pages i have made such as “about” and “contact”
    https://blog.magicodesign.com/
so i created a new page called page.php which is a copy of index with the section for the comments / posted in removed. i would like it so that these pages i have made look at the page.php file instead of index.php…. hope that makes more sense…

How did you “made” the “custom pages” (about and contact)? Did you create the content in the Write > Write Page section? Or, are they totally different physical files?

    anybody?

Pages automatically default to using the page. php file for the theme you are using, so you shouldn’t need to do anything else. It just knows! ??

    i got it ?? thanks a bunch!

Did you make sure to upload the page.php into the right theme directory?
