• I set up a blog, perfected the theme colors, did some posts and pages, etc. and now I want to change the name of the blog.

Is there a way to do that?

I was thinking I’d change the name of the folder in my cpanel, unassign the old name, then assign the new name.

But what do I have to do in my WP dashboard first?

    Thank you!
    Sally

  • What are you trying to change, exactly?

the public_html folder is usually set by your host, it has no bearing on your site name

To just change the actual name of your site, you go to settings->general and change it there

Or are you trying to change the url… like domain.com or domain.com/wordpress or something?

Hi Sally! You can change your WordPress site name by:

    1. log into your WordPress Dashboard
    2. Click “General” under “Settings” in the left menu

On that page you should see both your site title and description

    Hi you all,

Thank you. I’m changing the url, not just the site name.

Here’s my problem: I don’t want to have to recreate the whole wp set up all over again under the new url. I directed the new url to the public_html folder, and that works fine. Site shows up, looks great.

But I can’t login to the old wp dashboard. My question is: what do I change in the dashboard — or maybe in the cpanel? — so I can login?

P.S. I know I’ll have to change it all back to login to the old dashboard to make the changes, no worries there.

you can change the site url easily enough to match your new domain

    Should be helpful for that

Can all be done from the cpanel end of things

Hi Sally. I’m not sure if I fully understand, but have tried adjusted the site url in your wp-config.php file? You may be able to do that on the fly so you can log into each of the dashboards that you need to.
