changing colour of navigation bar on blackbird template

you might need to provide a live link to your site to get halp with the formatting issue.

This is the code for the nav bar (I think!)

display: inline-block;
margin-bottom: 0;
margin-top: 20px;

but when i use firebug to change the colour nothing changes.
