• Alright, so my webhost has been migrating it’s webservers to a new setup, and in the process changed my database name from ‘rodvinge_com’ to ‘rodvinge_default’. This of course rendered my blog unusable, and I’ve been trying to figure out whether or not I can just change a setting somewhere for the new database, or if I’m going to have to ask my webhost to change the database name for me (it doesn’t appear that I’m able to do so myself). Anyone know if it’s possible to merely change a setting somewhere?

Just change the database name in wp-config.php.

I tried that, but I’m still greeted with the following error message:
blockquoteWe’re having a little trouble selecting the proper database for WordPress.
    * Are you sure it exists?
    * Your database name is currently specified as rodvinge_com. Is this correct?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?/blockquote

Alright, I tried that and still no go. I’m going to shoot my webhost an email tomorrow asking them to rename the database back to ‘rodvinge_com’, since I do not have permission to do so via phpMyAdmin. Hopefully I’ll figure out a fix in the mean time.

Gosh, NuclearMoose, what an absurd suggestion. Anyone who would do that would be a complete ninny. I mean, the very thought of changing it locally, and then forgetting to upload…
    *checks*
Oh my, would you look at that…
Well, then! Thanks NuclearMoose, you’ve been most helpful. ??

One more thing, I even tried to let WP regenerate a new database with the name I wanted and over-write that new one. BAD TRY.

    Any suggestion?

MySQL 5.1 enhancements, the RENAME DATABASE statement.
You will have to wait and change you DB name when 5.1 is available.
