Changing default layout of template

Hi All,

i have just started to make a site using the Graphene theme.

All is going well but I cant work out how to edit the template that is used when creating a new page.

At the moment a new page will be created with a “Latest Posts” and “News” area, i don’t need these.

How do I go about getting rid of them and maybe adding in my own feature that I would like in the template.

This will be my first time editing a template so please be kind and explain clearly.
