Changing Domains

  • Hello

    I have my hosting with one provider and my domains with another with the namerservers for the current domain pointing at my site on the hosting server. I also have another domain that I wish to use and replace the current domain with the new one. Once I have changed the name servers to the new domain what changes will I need to make within wordpress so everything works.

    Thanks – Im not moving the site though and it will remain in its original location. All I will be changing is the namerservers from domain A to domain B. I beleive my hosting company need to do somethng their end as well.

    Any more thoughts on this as I am not moving the site location, just pointing a new domain at the site.

    Hi,

    The instructions I posted above should help you identify where changes should be made in your current WP files and DB so that your current WP files works when associated with a new domain name.

    If you want to test before you switch, you must temporarily change “siteurl” and “home” in the database table “wp_options” (through phpMyAdmin or similar).

    If you think about it you are effectively moving your WP install to another domain name!!
