Changing featured image effect on home page

All PHP can do is setup the content to be sent out to the browser. It’s up to JavaScript in the browser to swap the images in and out. This sort of thing is a good project to hone your coding skills on if that’s of any interest. Otherwise there are a slew of “image slider” plugins that do something similar. They may not use actual featured images since there is one per page, but they will swap images in and out none the less. If you are keen to code your own, one of these plugins still could be examined as an example of how to accomplish something you’re not clear on.
