• Hi guys,

Something I’ve been toying with –

At present, I’m running a website with the site title as the homepage. Problem with this is, that many other sites on Google are using PBNs to inflate their serps, something we refuse to do.

My question is, in Settings>>General – where you can change the site url – would I be able to change the url from https://mysite.com (as it is now) to https://mysite.com/keyword – and if I did, what would happen to all the internal and external links that are pointing to the original address?

Any help on this, both positive and negative, would be greatly appreciated.

Right – so considering that I don’t want to move any files or folders, and I just want the homepage to read https://mysite.com/keyword for Google serps reasons – but I’d still like my users to be able to access the website by using https://mysite.com – I’m guessing that just one of either the WordPress address – and the Site address – needs to be changed from mysite.com – to mysite/keyword.com.

However from what I’m reading, it’s looking like anyone typing in mysite.url will end up ok, as the wordpress files will still be there, but anyone going in through Google via mysite.com/keyword will end up in limbo – as that file does not exist.

Oh, and which url needs changing, as the codex spins off on a tangent halfway through?

Dunno, maybe it’s me not reading it right, or maybe the codex needs simplifying. I know it must be possible somehow, even with an edit to wp-config – but I’m not touching anything until I know there’s a fighting chance of this working.

Codex has described more than one method. Find the one that’s right for you and use that.

Yep, there’s more than one way to do it, but it doesn’t make it clear whether you change the Site URL, or the WordPress URL.

Which one should I be changing to keep the files where they are, and users typing what they’re used to typing – whilst at the same time adding a keyword in one of the the URLs for serps purposes?
