• I just noticed that I’m using wordpress 2.2 on this particular site, so maybe this issue is solved in the update. But I am using the Talian-10 theme and when I try to rename Blogroll it just doesn’t change the Blogroll Title. I’ve changed it in Manage–Categories and it does not change the title in the sidebar.

The only way I can get it to change is by editing the sidebar.php in the theme editor. Changing the H3 title that is there. But that only works if I keep the default sidebar widgets setup. If I start dragging my own widget choices into the widget presentation.. then it goes back to calling the Blogroll Title … no matter what I name it in categories.

Can anyone tell me where I can make changes to the Blogroll widget rather than Manage-Categories and sidebar.php? I don’t see Blogroll in the plugins folder.

    Thanks, if you can help!

Well, I’ve determined that it does not have to do with the 2.2 version of WordPress because I have another wordpress 2.2 site that does allow the Blogroll to be renamed LINKS.

Doesn’t anyone know where I could start to look to fix this?

It must be related to the theme, but I’m getting no answers there either.

Thanks in advance. (optimistic that someone can steer me in the right direction).

It’s probably the theme. Edit the theme to show something else. Look in the sidebar.php file.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion. But if you see my original post, I did edit the sidebar.php. It only works if I leave the default widgets in place. If I drag my own widget choices there, it goes back to calling it Blogroll, rather than what I’ve renamed it in sidebar.php or categories.

I guess I will try deleting the widgets I don’t want in sidebar.php . That might be a way to work around this glitch.

    Thank you for your help.

Post your sidebar.php code on https://wordpress.pastebin.ca and then post the link back here, so that we can take a look at it.

Also, if you’re using widgets, then the Links widget will instead show the category name that the blogroll links are in, which does default to “Blogroll”.

Hey, thank you very much for suggestion about editing my sidebar. Instead of dragging my own widgets into the sidebar arrangement section, I just left it at default. Then I edited the theme’s left_sidebar.php file

This particular theme didn’t come with a links widget, but that information will be useful when I’m working with other themes in the future.

    Thanks again!

The Links widget is built into WordPress, it’s not part of any theme.

I’ve uploaded a screenshot of my Presentation–>Widgets page. I don’t see a Links widget here.

I thought maybe if I dragged Blogroll into the sidebar, it would give me that little menu, like the Text widget does. But, nope.

    Am I missing something?

There is no “Blogroll” widget. The “Links” widget comes with WordPress and is built in. If it’s not there and some “Blogroll” widget has taken its place, then it’s clear that your theme is doing something to cause that.

Try a different theme, see if the problem goes away. When it does, then you should look at your theme’s functions.php file to figure out where it’s taking away the normal “Links” widget and replacing it with this “Blogroll” widget.

Note that the Links widget does not provide any sort of configuration menu either. It just displays the blogroll/links/bookmarks in the sidebar, in their own categories. A lot of theme authors try to override the normal ways of displaying bookmarks, because in the past they had to do so. They don’t have to do so anymore, and so a lot of older themes are broken in this respect.

Thanks for the info. I will look into this further. I appreciate the information.

I don’t know if your theme is the same, but for the one I was using I was able to find a section for ‘Blogroll’ in ‘functions.php’. I managed to get it to display ‘Links’ when I changed a line in this file.
