I’ve installed WP on a hosting service, setup all the structure, installed WP in a subdirectory, and began a blog there. I’ve now decided the subdirectory is mislabeled. Too specific.

My question is what consequences proceed from changing the name of the subdirectory.

    1. Are the WP links relative urls, so that portion won’t matter? So I’ll only have to fix some of the absolute urls I pasted in.
    2. Should I export the contents of the blog, delete that subdiretory, start a new one with the correct name, and import the contents back in?
    3. Or is there some other solution?
    4. Before I do anything, I obviously need to do a good backup.

Thanks in advance for any help.

First, change the two URLs at Settings/General in your admin panel before renaming the directory.

After you rename the directory, make sure that you re-save your permalink structure at Settings/Permalinks in your admin panel. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving.

Some links will need to be manually changed. You can use this tool to find them.

No, just change the two URLs at Settings/General in your admin panel and rename the directory.

Yes, you should probably backup your files and database before doing this.
