I’m running wordpress 2.3… All I want to do is simply update my site to use a different permalink style, instead of the ugly URL/?p=1234.

I’ve had nothing but trouble with this. Mod_rewrite is setup and working properly…

Anyone out there had this same issue?… and is there anyone out there that could help get this changed for me? I want to SAVE the existing pages as is so that I don’t lose any positioning I have gained… OR, redirect those pages to the new permalink style… if you know what I mean!

    Help! ??

    James

Just go to Options->Permalinks and change the setting. That’s all there is to it.

If WordPress cannot write to the .htaccess file, then it will tell you so and give you the text that you need to add to that file.

The old links will continue to work and will actually redirect to the new ones correctly.

I’ve done that and it breaks the site.
