Changing Sidebar Titles to Images

3. I can’t see any difference in the site when viewing with IE8 compared to Firefox.

Images as titles on my sidebar.

If you look my site you’ll see image titles for Categories, Search, Links I Love and Archives. There are also text titles underneath. I can remove some of the text titles but not all. I have spent hours digging through the code to find it.

I’m also trying to figure out how to close the gap between the image title and what’s underneath. If I remove the text title for Categories, there’s about an inch of space between that and the list and it looks silly. It’s that way for each section on the right side.

I’m viewing on IE8 and I only see red xs where the image titles should be. Firefox is viewing fine. They viewed fine on all browsers up until late last night. I’ve tried clearing out my cache — didn’t help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, I see what you are trying to do. You are trying to make a title for your widget using another widget. This is possible, but not the best of routes.

What is your CSS experience?

I have no experience. Unfortunately, the person that I paid to do this site isn’t helping me anymore.

Unfortunately WordPress removes all HTML from widget titles, and there is a default title for the widgets when set to nothing.

Therefore it takes either one of CSS or PHP experience to make what you are trying to do a reality.

Just curious, how long would it take someone with knowledge to fix? I feel like I was getting screwed by my old programmer because this is all new to me. I don’t mind paying someone but I also don’t like being taken advantage of.

Unfortunately the time frame is dependent on the work that has already been done. I hate to give you an estimate without being sure of what I am estimating. Ideally I would say this could be done using CSS, but I can’t say absolutely.

To help gauge, I was quoted 2 hours of coding to add my Twitter and Facebook links. I’ve never done this before and I taught myself in less than 30 minutes.

It’s not a bad idea for widgets to allow you to insert a title and/or an image. Maybe that’s a core feature request worthy of some consideration.

Then again I guess it would be hard to apply on a large scale and you could always write background images into your CSS. What you can’t do w/ the default setup though is to *not* display a title.
