Does Blocksy have a problem with changing the wp site url?

Installed Blocksy 1.8.14 and Blocksy Child theme. If I change the site url, in the WP dashboard>Settings>General, either before installing theme or after installing the theme, the theme will not load for customization and the site timesout and will not load.

Running WP 5.8.2 with php 8.0. No plugins installed, and all other themes deleted.

    Many thanks,
    Kim

  • Hello @wardencenter

No, Blocksy is dynamically loading all of its assets. The main domain name does not matter, as it wouldn’t be ok to load the assets by using an absolute path.

Would you be able to get back to us with a little bit more detail on your configuration? Is it a local server?

Also, as far as I know, just changing the domain name in WP’s settings is not enough. There are many things that are using absolute (or cached) paths, so the problem might come from these other things. (and for example, missing theme files will never be able to crash the website, WordPress does have a fallback as far as I recall, even if no other themes are installed) You might need to run a search & replace in your database for the domain name.

If your domains are live, it would be helpful to post them here to run some analysis of what’s happening, but I’m not sure if we’ll be able to get very far from the front end.

    Waiting on your reply ??

    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Domain is live, but site has never been live, fyi. Still in building phase. I can remove and replace the WP installation as I wish.

    Site is hosted by ITXDesign.

I read this article to say that all that’s required is changing the “site url” setting, though it does give manual methods as options (see phrase “Every once in a while, somebody finds a need to manually change (or fix) these settings.”).

    Changing The Site URL

I did try the manual methods to see what would happen, but none of them fixed the problem. Thoughts?

    Thanks again,
    Kim

UPDATE: Please disregard. I removed and reinstalled wp a number of times, using a different theme each time. Issue occurs with every theme, even the default themes (twenty-twenty-one, etc). No amount of file of dB updating seems to fix the issue.

Will post question to general wp forum.

So sorry for taking up your time.

Ah, got it. There must be something going on with your server setup, have you tried contacting your hosting?

    Thanks
