• A site I’m building for a client is currently sitting on the server where they will eventually be hosting the site, but since their domain name is still pointed to their existing website, the web host provided me with a testing server to build the site – https://www.domain-name.com/00.0.00.000.nameofhost.com.

The site is nearly finished, and in the next day or so I will be changing the domain’s nameservers to the new host’s.

The host gave me the link to the codex page on changing the site URL, but I just want to make sure I do everything in the proper order. I have quite a few images on the site (both in posts, and in static pages, and in slide shows and galleries).

When I change the domain nameservers, then I assume I will have to change the WordPress URL and Site URL in the Dashboard settings to https://www.domain-name.com. What will happen to all of the internal links, and image url’s? Will they all have to be changed manually? Or will they change when I change the Site URL in the Dashboard?

OK, that was helpful. I assume I would be following the directions for “On your Existing Server”. On the other hand, I’m not sure I understand exactly what the webhost has done, because when I go to the File Manager in the hosting control panel, I don’t see the files existing inside a sub-directory – they are already in the root of the site. But when I’m looking at the Dashboard, all the file locations have the /00.0.00.000.nameofhost.com. after the domain name.

If the files are already in the root directory, then should I just change the nameserver settings in the domain’s control panel, then change the WordPress Address and Site Address in the Dashboard?

    Correct.

I’m not sure I understand exactly what the webhost has done

I think you need to ask them about this.

I have. They talk like a sphinx.
