I want to change the theme of my WordPress blog-in-progress to something other than the default. But when I upload a folder containing a new theme, my wp-admin reports that the stylesheet is missing. I’ve uploaded two different themes and the result is the same.

    What am I missing here?

Are you uploading all the files of the theme?

You need to make a new directory in the themes directory with the name of the theme. Then you upload all your theme files into that. If you’re missing the style.css file, then you’ll get that error message.

Also check that you have the correct permissions set on all the theme files. They should all be set to 644, usually.

    Thanks, Otto42.

I discovered the error of my ways with the help of your message. While I had created a new file to house the new theme, I uploaded the file inside a folder. Hence, I had a folder within a folder.

I reloaded and all is fine. Thanks again.
