Changing the event link and url

I am wanting to click through from the event shortcode to a custom url rather than the event page. Is there a way to do this easily? I tried changing the slug, (so I could use ulr rewrites) using the code at https://wp-eventmanager.com/documentation/changing-event-slugpermalink/ but this gives a syntax error now. It would be better if there was an option to add a custom url link in the dashboard?
