• Good Afternoon,

We are looking at reducing the length of the new user random generated password. Can anyone please point me in the right direction for the location of the file responsible for this.

I have tried changing the $length in the function wp_generate_password in the wp-includes/pluggable.php file.

    Any hints would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Damien

  • I wouldn’t reduce it to begin with, because you are making your site more vulnerable by doing so. Also it includes editing core wordpress files which may be overwritten as soon as you update your site again.

There’s really no need. The suggested strong password provided at the confirmation/set initial password link can just be overwritten. It isn’t enforced by default.
