• Hi, I want to update my website. I am now using the Twenty-Ten theme. I would like to update to Twenty-Twelve. What I would like to know is how much of my design and lay-out I will have to do again, or is it a straight swap?
And is there a simple way to revert if I don’t like the new look? Thanks for the help!

  • It’s not that things will be lost. It just needs some adjustment, mostly minor, but depends on the amount of modifications done to the currently used theme.

Generally, when changing theme you will need to:

    • Adjust all the style(as in CSS) because differences in HTML markups, CSS id and class names.
    • Theme settings like Header Image, Background Image need to be reassigned.
    • Custom menus, and Widgets will be kept but might need to be reassigned to new theme location.

Thank you, that is reassuring ?? Is there an easy way to revert? Does that mean simply reassigning the original theme?

Yes, in general yes. Nothing will be lost, unless that theme is so special that it assigns a function to delete settings upon deactivate theme. Even if it is, still it’s just a matter of re-input all that settings.

Warning: Be careful NOT to click on “delete” theme, just activate new theme, and it will automatically switch to it.
