A friend of mine is creating an ecommerce site with WordPress and Woocommerce. He is currently using the Porto theme but is having problems with it/doesn’t really like it. He wants to know if he add’s all his products to Woocommerce and then changes the theme down the road if it will cause any issues. Does each theme that supports Woocommerce do things differently such that if he adds all his products and changes the theme down the road he will have issues. Should he just change the theme now before he gets too deep into things.

    Thanks,

    Warren

  • Hey there,

Switching themes won’t affect all the work he’s done adding products, but each time he changes themes, he’ll need to rethink how to design the display of the store, and spend time getting familiar with all the options the new theme offers.

I’d advise your friend to write down a list of features they want, then check out a few themes to narrow it down.

Here’s other places to find WooCommerce compatible themes:
    https://www.ads-software.com/themes/search/woocommerce/
    https://woocommerce.com/product-category/themes/storefront-child-theme-themes/

so does this mean that whenever a new theme is applied, all the data entered into woo commerce in the previous theme will automatically be moved over to the new theme immediately when the woo commerce plugin is activated in the new theme?

all the data entered into woo commerce in the previous theme will automatically be moved over

Not really, the product data doesn’t move anywhere, it’s still in the same spot in the database. Changing themes is like applying a new paint to your car or house, if that makes sense.

Content and design are separate, if you want to learn more about it, you can check out CSS Zen Garden, and see all the different ways the same content can be displayed through different design templates.
