    Hi:
I’m thinking of buying a premium theme from Envato for my blog. I don’t want to be stuck with that theme forever, however. What are some best practices when picking a theme to ensure I can easily switch to a different one down the road? Are themes with visual builders built in generally bad (from what I heard) in terms of changing them later?

That’s pretty much the only thing to keep in mind. In general, switching themes should be fully transparent, like changing clothes. Same content, same site, different look.

However, when theme-specific page builders are thrown into the mix, you’re locked into the theme (or at least the specific theme developer) unless it’s a theme-independent page builder, like Beaver Builder or Visual Composer (in which case you’re locked into the plugin, but not the theme).

    Thanks James!
