• I have hosting with a temporary URL pointing to my root web directory on my host where my wordpress site is set up. Now I need to point my new URL to that location. I’ve read about “moving” your site, but I’m not really moving it, just changing the URL. It seems as though I should be able to point my new URL to my site root, then run one of the scripts that change the urls in the database. Should that work, and does it matter what order I do it in?

Ah, I just saw that after I posted. I swear I really did search before I asked! If I change it using the functions.php file, does that actually change it in the database too, or do I still need to do that afterwards?

Also still wondering what order I should do things in. Should I change the name servers first, then change the site URL, or the other way around? I started to worry about this when reading about moving sites because for the case of moving directories on existing server it says, “It is important that you set the URI locations BEFORE you move the files.”

If I understand your question correctly, I believe you should just be able to change the URL in the Administration page and then point the new URL to your server.
