Changing WordPress URL

Hi there,

I recently started using WordPress again and am very happy I did. However, I am wanting to install WordPress in a directory entitled (wp) to save room and avoid clutter in the root folder. In addition, I would also like to be able to rename my website as follows:

At installation: https://www.example.com/wp

I would like: https://www.example.com

I know this is possible though here https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5-Minute_Install

If someone could tell me how to do this that would be great as the I have followed the instructions in that article to the “T” and all I got was the famous “White Page of Death”…heh.
