Changing wordpress URL only,not moving files. question

  • I had a problem before so I am paranoid.

    Basically I am only changing what domain name is pointing to the files (in root directory).

    If I change the URLs in the settings/general tab to the new URL, will that update all the links for pics, posts etc?

    Is that all I have to do?

    Also Do I change that then go to hosting company and change primary domain, in that order?

    I appreciate the quick response. I have looked at the giant essay of a page and that is why I am asking here for the “short” version.

    I am guessing that I only need the info up to the yellow box on that page?

    Everything below is for actually moving files?

    That page lists 4 different methods. They are the “short versions”. All you have to do is pick which one to use.

    Links in your content with full URL addresses will not update. You may have to do a search and replace on the database to update those. There are plugins which can do that for you.

    Your site will not be reliably accessible until the domain name change propagates through the internet, which can take up to 48 hours.
