OK. I’ve installed and am very very happy with WP1.5 working on my website. I did this blog as a part of a larger experiment, but it’s so good I’m thinking of replacing my main website with the blog itself.

Right now I’ve installed the blog on https://www.avalon5.com/blog and it’s working fine. If I now wanted to change it such that my blog is actually my main website (e.g. https://www.avalon5.com) – is this just a quick config change or am I destined to uninstall and reinstall it again only this time choosing the correct domain?

    Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah – serious kudos to the developers behind this software. I’m mighty impressed with it’s capability, structure and expandability. So much so that I’m abandoning my idea to install and configure a CMS engine in preference for this solution instead ??

All you have to do is move the WordPress files and change the siteurl and home values in the database.

Actually you can do the following:
    1) Login as admin and change the “WordPress Address” and “Blog address” to the new values.
    2) Move the files to the new location (corresponding to that specified in step 1 above).

That’s it! That will work for sure. I have tried it and used it thrice.

And remember, you have to do it in the order carthik listed, otherwise, you’ll end up having to manually edit the database to change the urls. ??

Actually, if one changed step 2 to “Copy the files to the new location,” you can switch the steps (and cause little to no interruption in blog acccess for visitors), but should add a further one:

    3) Delete the files from the old location/directories.

Forgive me, but I am confused.

In the Options tab of the Dashboard, there are two boxes where I may enter address values. My current settings are:

    WordPress address (URI): https://www.mysite.com/wordpress
    Blog address (URI): https://www.mysite.com/wordpress

The instructions tell me “If you want your blog homepage to be different than the directory you installed WordPress in, enter that address here.” (It seemed so easy!)

Once I finished configuring my blog, I was going to type in “https://www.mysite.com” to the Blog Address field and be done with it (or so I thought).

If I type the main address in, am I doomed to have to go mucking about in the database to reset everything? My host doesn’t have Myphpadmin installed. There is a MySQL manager of some sort on my control panel, but it gives me a terminal screen and I don’t know what to type into it.

You are correct. In those two boxes in the WP Admin, change the URL to yoursite.com

When you do this it will break your site, but the settings will be changed in the db.

Once the db changes are made, THEN, move (or as Kafkaesqui suggested, copy) the files to the main public_html directory.

Once the files are moved (or copied) it’ll bring your site back up as if nothing happened. ??

Made the change this morning. Thanks for the info folks – it worked perfectly (as far as I can tell anyway!).
