agree. I have this same issue that appeared out of no-where today…
Across dozens of our sites.
Is there a planned patch/fix available. Really need ASAP.

And if you can accurately describe what you are talking about, we may have a clue what’s causing that…

Have you tried:

– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

– re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

Here is hopefully a better explanation of the issue. It occurs on attempted ‘upload’ of an image inside the wordpress dashboard when logged in an Administrator.

Specifically is when using third party frameworks inside wordpress (elegantthemes.com framework in this case……other frameworks seem ok through testing to date). This was working OK prior to upgrade (yesterday actually).

I’ve gone through all above recommended steps above, and are still receiving the issue. Also reverted back to Twenty Eleven theme and was able to upload header graphics.

Then it’s definitely a theme issue. I’d suggest that you go back to Elegant Themes with this: https://www.elegantthemes.com/forum/

Hrm, I don’t discount the possibility that I’m doing something wrong, but those links only show me tiny thumbnails…

Do you know ET are experiencing this issue with all of their themes?. Or just 1 or 2?

This is not just a problem for ET, I am using BizNiz theme and now having same problem after upgrade. Problem with latest upgrade for sure.

I experienced this same problem. I solved it by renaming the theme folder and eliminating any spaces between the letters.

Same problem for me, I am using the Valera theme by OrangeIdea.

Exact same thing here. Just updated to 3.4 and all of a sudden I get the ‘cheatin’ error trying to upload images through the theme admin. It’s a Themezilla theme. Seems to me if so many people are reporting the error on so many different themes, it must be a WordPress error, not a theme error. I’ve contacted Themzilla support, waiting on an answer.

First off, always try the troubleshoot 101 methods first.

That’s shared often because these steps frequently work.

Nah, it’s a theme error. Some theme’s range from breaking due to being overly creative in their features (and breaking as a result) to just outright bad coding practices.

Give this portion a look and hopefully your theme developer will fix it soon.

No, I’m not going to do any of that. Everything was fine, as other posters have said, until I upgraded to WP 3.4. And now it’s broken. It’s therefore a WP error and not a theme error. It is to do with the functionality specific to the theme, but it’s the changes in WordPress that have caused the problem.

The new version of WordPress has broken numerous themes in the same way, not because of any ‘fancy creativity’, just simple things like uploading logos for headers of background images.

Sorry but the reality is that some badly coded themes broke WordPress 3.4. I suggest you take this up with the theme developers.

I have. And it seems to be more than some. I’ll post what they come back with.
