• Since the recent update to 8.0 – my FILE PERMISSIONS have changed. Before they were all GREEN and good. NOW my .htaccess, wp-config and public_html file folders have gone to ORANGE WARNING via the plugin dashboard TOOLS > Check file permissions.

I’m also seeing an uptick in brute force attacks since the 8.0 update.

Is there a quick way to set PERMISSIONS back to GREEN – or do I have to login to file manager and manually set them back? Before the update I would use SYSTEM TWEAKS and WORDPRESS TWEAKS settings to make File Permissions GREEN – NOT ANYMORE.

What a SECURITY nightmare this has become!!!
    Please help!!

    Hi @princessl,

Sorry for the confusion. We go over the File Permissions setting in our 8.0 release post: https://ithemes.com/ithemes-security-8-0/#ib-toc-anchor-19

The 644 permissions your files have been set back to are safe. Setting them back to 444 via your hosts File Manager would be more secure, and if it’s compatible with your hosting environment feel free to do so. However, it isn’t a necessity.

In a future update we’ll make this delineation more clear in the Check File Permissions tool.

I hope that answers your question.
