Checkbox lists not updating when unchecking a box

I created a checkbox list using Magicfields 2.2. If I check something and publish it, it works fine. But if I uncheck all boxes it and update the post, the meta value does not get erased.
Example:
Agency Leadership Role:
_ adm
_ exec
_ prog
_ boardIf I check “board”, the meta value in the database is:
a:1:{i:0;s:5:”board”;}If I uncheck “board” (leaving all checkboxes unchecked) the meta value does not change. It still says, a:1:{i:0;s:5:”board”;}
Anyone know a solution to this?
