    Hi,

I realized yesterday that in the last 3 weeks (since June 8th) not one of my subscriptions had been sold via PayPal (only via Stripe). PayPal is usually chosen by customers in 2/3 of my site’s transactions. After running a test checkout, I noticed that PayPal was loading indefinitely in the background, without ever connecting to my site. So it made sense that my customers simply left my site or checked out via Stripe. I then resynced PayPal’s webhooks via EDD (downloads > settings > payments > PayPal –> all green checks).

Today I ran a purchase test, and it “only” took 10 seconds to connect to PayPal (pop-up window). I don’t remember it ever taking that long ever before. Is this normal that the handshake between EDD and PayPal takes that much time at checkout? I can remember it was taking like 2 or 3 seconds before.

I’d appreciate any hint of what could be causing this issue.

    Thanks!

    Hey @nikkoboy
    Thanks for reaching out!

We have not seen any other reports of a similar issue with the loading times, however, there have been some reports of problems in regards to PayPal connectivity.

We believe that this might have been a temporary issue and at this point, there is nothing in regards to EDD that could have caused that.

Hi @misulicus thanks for stepping in! I forgot to mention in my previous message that when customers purchase a subscription on my website, they have a profile automatically created via the EDD auto register’s plugin.

I also noticed that this delay with the PayPal connection was particularly long when new customers where checking out: it would take up to 10 seconds for them to be redirected to PayPal (PayPal popup would become active only after 10 seconds). However, when an already existing customers was logged in to manually renew a subscription, the process only takes 5 seconds.

Could this be because EDD auto register delays the PayPal connection, since it creates an account at the same time? Would this explain why logged in customers who renew a subscription manually, only need to wait 5 secs for PayPal to become active, when non registered customers require at least 10 seconds? Do you know how long in general it takes for the PayPal pop up to be fully loaded and active?

Thanks in advance for any additional hint you could share!

    Hey @nikkoboy

It’s unlikely that Auto Register could cause a delay that high.
You could always set up a staging site and test there in test mode with just EDD and the Recurring extension and see how it loads with no other plugins active.
