Child Page being called instead of Home

I installed WordPress with a Gabfire theme called Blognews, got it all running, but now every time I create a page under a parent page (I guess a child page or a subpage?) somehow it forces the site to default to THAT page as the home. I’ve checked the reading settings to make sure it didn’t direct it to a static page. I’ve checked the general settings to make sure the URL was correct. Everything checks out, but I cannot get to the blog home page when I add a page under a parent page. It immediately goes to the child page when my domain root is visited. HELP!!! It did this yesterday and I did a database backup to undo the damage because even deleting the page doesn’t work – it still tries to go there but gets a 404 error! Now, it’s doing it again.
