    Hello,

I have not seen the answer to my question phrased how I could understand it, and am not even sure I can explain it properly. Here goes:

If I need to make changes to any file other than style.css, do I start a “child version” of that file? For instance, I changed the height of my header image by amending functions.php in the parent folder. Was that correct or should I have started a new functions.php in the child folder. This is the gray area for me and I have not been able to find anything that answers this exactly how I need to understand it…. thanks so much

If you want to customise any file in Twenty Eleven – including style.css – you need to create a child theme.

    Was that correct

No. You should have created a child theme and added custom function to a blank functions.php file in the child theme that amended the header height.

Yes, start a new file in the child folder for any core file you change.

I most certainly did create a child theme. I just didn’t know if customizing anything other than style.css required a file with the same name in the child directory.

But thank you, my question has been answered now.
