    Hi everybody

I’ve searched everywhere and tried everything but nothing seems to help ??

I’ve tried creating a wordpress child theme but it will not show up in my Appearance/themes in WP-Admin.

I’ve used the WP codex and followed the instructions 100%

Here’s a picture of my screen.

The tree in the top should indicate that everything is placed correctly.

    I am using xampp.

I really hope you can help out!

    Best regards

  • What parent theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    Hi Esmi

The parent theme is twentythirteen. The new standard theme included with the new WP releases

You can download a pre-made Twenty Thirteen child theme from here

    Hi

    It says page not found.
I was hoping i could avoid installing it as a .zip file but rather upload the folder!

Ok, so I have placed the unzipped folder in wp-content/themes and it still doesn’t show up.
    Any ideas :S ?

Try uploading it via Appearance -> Themes -> Install Themes -> Upload

I have tried this with other themes and it works fine if I upload .zip files.

The thing is, I don’t want to edit my site then convert it to a zip every time i have to make a change.

Pardon? Who said anything about converting your site into a zip file?.

Well – I might be way off – But if I want to upload a theme, i have to upload a zip file correct?

The only dialogue i see is:

If you have a theme in a .zip format, you may install it by uploading it here.

And if i upload a zip, i have to unpack it, change it, and re-pack it every time i want to make a change right?
Or am a talking gibberish here?

if I want to upload a theme, i have to upload a zip file correct?

If you are uploading the theme via WordPress. yes. But that zip file just contains the theme – nothing else.

And if i upload a zip, i have to unpack it, change it, and re-pack it every time i want to make a change right?

No. WordPress unpacks the theme’s zip file.

    OK.

Now I’ve uploaded the theme via wordpress (Locally using xampp).
It’s installed and showing up in my themes.

Now the trouble is (As before) i cannot find the files locally on my PC.
    I thought that:

    1. You upload a zip
    2. The zip is installed (Unpacked) and placed automatically in your themes folder.

The theme you handed me (Thank you(: ) is now installed via. wordpress but i can’t find the files locally on my PC.

The theme’s folder will be inside wp-content/themes.

    That’s what i find odd. It’s not!

By searching around – Oddly enough!! – i found the directory WP installed the child theme in….

    In my case, it’s under
    C:\xampp\apps\wordpress\htdocs\wp-content\themes\twentythirteen-child

I believed i should search in

    C:\xampp\htdocs\wordpress-3.6\wordpress\wp-content\themes

    Apparently everything works fine now!

Thanks for the quick answers esmi!

    Much appreciated!

I’m hopping you can help me
I have tried every suggestion on here to get my child theme to show up with no results it’s still not working
Here is the latest version Iv’e tried:

    WordPress/contents/theme/mychildtheme/style.css

    /*
    Theme Name: mychildtheme
    Theme url: https://www.websitename.com/
    Description: Twenty Eleven Child Theme
    Author: my name
    Author url: https://websitename.com/
    Template: twentyeleven
    Version: 1.7
    Tags: light, dark, two-columns, right-sidebar, responsive-layout, accessibility-ready
    Text Domain: twenty-eleven
    */

    @import url(“../twentyeleven/style.css”);

    What am i doing wrong?

    Gina
