Child Theme not working

Please could someone help me ….

I am hosting my website locally on my Macbook Pro with MAMP and can’t get the child theme to work, the error message is that the theme is broken.
I used TextWrangler and after trying everything from all the posts I read I downloaded Brackets to try that but still no luck.
I’ve tried every suggestion such as making sure there are no spelling errors, the words are all lower case with no spaces, coping someone else’s script and pasting it in (but correcting the information), checking the pathway to both the Parent and Child theme was correct, making sure the stylesheet is saving as a .css etc
