    hi guys,

i understand how to create a child theme with the style.css. but what shall I do when I edit the .php files? shall i copy them into the new folder of my child theme?

i am afraid that when updating WP all those changes will disappear. Thank you.

You should not edit anything in the original theme – only copies of the files that you have ported over to the child theme.
