I am working on a project using WordPress [Multisite] using GeoPlaces v2.0 by Templatic. I will have to customize few of its features so was thinking of having a child theme, but unfortunately it appears as if GeoPlaces does not support child themes.
I would appreciate if any one could help me in making this theme to support child themes.
    TIA

  • The amount of work that is need to allow a theme to support children could be quite extensive. Unless, of course you only want to use different CSS – in which case any theme should be able to support child themes.

Have you contacted the theme authors?

No, I have not yet contacted them. I think I came across an article somewhere, where – if my memory serves me right – only a few lines of code was required to turn any theme to support child themes.

esmi, I might need to customize few templates as well, that is why am looking for a Child theme approach so that the future update are safe to apply.

Well it only takes a few lines of code to *register* a child theme…

That is a far cry from making any theme a parent theme. Some are good… some not so good. Depends on what you want to do.

I need to make customize it for a client, where I will need to update few templates as well. I just want to keep my customizations at a separate place so that even if the client updates the theme .. as it might become necessary some day .. my changes should remain there.
If it would have been only the CSS, they do provide a custom.css to override the default CSS.

Theoretically, you should be able to by copying the templates to your child-theme folder and editing them there. You’ll have to try it. Make it your bog-standard child theme and see what happens. If the theme was written well, you’ll be fine.

Sorry, guys my mistake. I made a wrong choice when actually making that style.css file – I did use WordPad to create that file, and it appended .txt to it which I ignored.
Sorry, am writing it here someone else might some day anything silly like this.
    Thanks for all your support.
