    Hey,
I would suggest downloading a child theme from here- https://www.kadencethemes.com/child-themes/
Let me know if you have further questions with this!

    Hi Hannah – thank you
    I do have more questions
On the link you gave it does not make clear where the
Virtue Premium Child theme is put ‘in the local folder on my desktop’ and do you mean desktp as in computer or desktop as in wordpress directory for Virtue
    Also
Do I download both the parent AND child themes – you have the child themes download at the bottom of the page that you provided the link for – or just that child theme.
As I am not a developer and this is new …
can I then instead of the coding – use that plug in? https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/child-themify/
Im trying to use free so that all my mistakes wont cost me money before I go pro so would like to try your suggestion if its no soo difficult – and thank you for helping in this.

It is referring to a local folder on your computer. It can be anywhere on your site.

An easier way would be just to download the zip from the page, and upload to your site via Appearance> Themes.

You will need both the parent and child theme on your site for it to function properly.

That plugin will likely work, but it’s unnecessary, as the files to create a child theme can already be downloaded from the link above.

Hopefully that clears it up for you!

    here’s the child-theme 101 version:

    1) go here:
    https://www.kadencethemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/virtue_child.zip
(this will start a download to your computer, just choose desktop)

    2) go to your wordpress and click on Appearance>Themes, then choose Add theme.

    3) click on Upload on top, then choose file, …select your Desktop and choose that virtue-child.zip

    4) install theme and Activate it

    5) …profit
