How can I make a child theme for Tove? Make a style.css and a functions.php? Does a child theme also need a theme.json, for all the variables? I’ve searched in the block editor handbook, but can’t find the answer.

    Hi @mbergsma,

There’s still a lot of work happening around enabling proper child theme support for block themes. Gutenberg 11.6 (the next release) will add basic support, and more features will be coming later on.

It’s unfortunately still a bit early for block child themes, in other words. But support should be there in time for WordPress 5.9.

    Hi Anders,

Thanks for the quick answer. I guess I’ll have to wait untill WordPress 5.9 will land. My poor knowledge of coding (just a bit of CSS and some copy/paste snippets) won’t be of any help.
Love the theme, especially the name Tove. As a storyteller and children’s librarian I think it’s great that you honor Tove Jansson this way!

    Hi @mbergsma,

Yeah, that’s probably the wiser course of action for now, unfortunately. Hopefully child theme functionality will get more attention as we get closer to the release. I’m really glad you like the theme, and the name!

    Hi Anders!

Thanks for your great theme Tove! I’m testing it on local environment and I tried to create a child theme but without success.

Any news for child theme support for block themes and your theme?

    Thanks!
