chinese text become symbols after upgrading

  • HI expert,

    I seriously need who ever can give me an idea how can i solve this problem…

    I have a chinese based wordpress at https://www.axian788.com. which I started with version 2.3 and i plan to upgrade it to version 2.6.1 as was given to me.

    I have done a trial with a test blog https://www.axian788.com/blog2/ to upgrade it from 2.3 – 2.6.1, which work perfectly, wihtout missing any of my theme layout and the content(chinese) is display in right order..

    So it giv eme th confidence to upgrade my actual site, but it was as easy as in the test blog. all my chinese text have convert to some unreadable symbol, even tho i try to encode with gb2321 or big5

    I check the WP admin, all my content also turn in to symbols… i have tried check the setting>reading> it is preset as utf-8 nothing wrong…

    did anyone experience such problem? I seriously need help asap.

    i just solve it, try this:
    1. open the wp=config.php
    2. add this define
    (‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’); // force utf8
    define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ‘gbk_chinese_ci’); // force collation
    3. and change the collaction ‘gbk_chinese_ci’ at your phpmyadmin as well
