I am having trouble using a theme. I downloaded buddypress…..when I download a theme to use…I am unable to use the theme. it gives me the following message: The parent theme is missing. Please install the “bp-default” parent theme.

I have deactivated all plug-ins except the buddypress….I have deactivated buddypress…then activated again. I have deleted it and downloaded it again. I just cant figure it out. can you help me

Please install the “bp-default” parent theme.

I know nothing about BuddyPress, but that message seems to indicate you need to also download (but do not activate) the Parent Theme upon which the one you are trying to run is dependent. SlimJetPak, for example, is like that. You can run certain JetPak features with SlimJetPak activated, but SlimJetPak cannot work at all unless JetPak is there also.

@anthony0215 BP Default theme, the parent theme being referred to by the theme you downloaded (which one?) is no longer being actively supported https://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2013/11/13/the-future-of-the-bp-default-theme/

BuddyPress is compatible with all WordPress themes except those which tweak the template file structure in some form or another. Either way, you would only need to tweak some styling to fit the theme you finally choose.
